Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is an exercise and education programme designed for people with lung disease/respiratory conditions, who may be experiencing symptoms of breathlessness or increased fatigue which may be affecting their day-to-day lives.
The programme is suitable for patients with a variety of respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchiectasis and pulmonary fibrosis.
The benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation
The programme will not heal your lungs but it will help you to be able to do more, such as walking and daily tasks.
Pulmonary rehabilitation will help to:
- Reduce your levels of breathlessness.
- Help you to improve your general health and level of fitness.
- Improve your ability to carry out the daily activities that are important to you.
- Help you understand about your respiratory disease.
- Help you to control the symptoms of your condition.
- Improve your levels of confidence and quality of life.

If you enrol on the programme you will have a choice of venues:
Beeston Youth and Community Centre, Westend, Beeston, NG9 1GL – class held on a Tuesday at 1:30pm and Thursday at 2:30pm
Nuthall Temple Community Centre, 44 Nottingham Road, Nuthall NG16 1DP – class held on a Wednesday at 10:00am and Friday at 12:45pm.
Question and answers
How do I get referred?
Speak to your own GP, or practice nurse at you GP surgery and they will be able to refer you to us. You can also get referred by a specialised nurse or consultant.
Who will contact me?
A member of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team will call you and give more information about the course.
What will happen?
Once the clinician has called and answered any questions, we will arrange an assessment to gather some more information about you and what you may be experiencing, and take a detailed medical and social background. If this is successful you will then be invited into one of our venues to meet us.
How long is the course?
The course is 6 weeks long, and you will attend 2 sessions per week.
What happens after I complete the programme?
After you complete the programme, you will be encouraged to continue exercise and will be offered a referral into the Health and Wellbeing maintenance class.
